What I’m reading – Venus on the Half-Shell

,

Any fans of Kurt Vonnegut out there?

In some of Vonnegut’s books, he has a fictional author named Kilgore Trout. Trout is the fictional author who has written over 117 novels and 2,000 short stories and has almost no fans. A real-life author, Philip José Farmer, decided to bring one of the books, Venus on the Half-Shell, talked about in Vonnegut’s books to life.

For a book that was intentionally written to be bad, it wasn’t unenjoyable. It reminded me of Douglas AdamsHitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. There were lots of absurd metaphors and similes, quirky characters, and strange alien life forms. The story was fun in places and slow in others, but I found it enjoyable.

If you are looking for a light-hearted, easy read, I would recommend it.
